Hello Young Lovers, and How Could I Ever Know

Taken from the Broadway Musical “The King and I” and "The Secret Garden."

Lady Karissa Elizabeth Ann stands outside of her balcony of her suite at Beltane Manor and she looks out into the star lit skies of Star Base 12 and Bedford Territory where Beltane Manor is situated.

She just stands there and she starts to talk to her long lost love, Roy L Mock who died on Planet Earth from radiation poisoning “ How long has it been Roy since I lost you?”

“I can’t believe that it has been 6 years since I laid you to rest near your grandmother.” Lady Karissa tells him.

“I had to leave Planet Earth after my family died   from the same illness that claimed you too.” Lady Karissa tells him.

“Roy. There were 500 of us that were unaffected by the radiation poisoning and I escaped it.” Lady Karissa tells him.

Five hundred of us  that were still capable of having children and left untainted by the long term side effects of radiation.” Lady Karissa tells him.

“My heart is not at peace.” Lady Karissa calls out into the evening sky “How do I ever forget what we had together.”

“We were happy. We planned our lives out together before you were taken away from me.” Lady Karissa cries.

“I had to resettle on Star Base 12.” Lady Karissa states, “ Star Base 12 is inhabited by stuffy, runny nose spoiled aristocrats with gold spoons stuck ucp their asses.” Lady Karissa tells Roy.

“When I arrived I lived out at Madame’s Boarding House with other young aristocratic women.” Karissa tells Roy.

“Lady Josette and Lady Isabella Collins were not aristocrats but rather from good gentry families.” Karissa tells Roy.

“All of a sudden I was pursued by two young men, one was Lord Andrew Charles Howard and the other, Lord Richard William Carey, Duke of Bedford Territory.” Karissa tells Roy.

“Both are charming, good looking, and I wanted to fulfil our dream by having the daughter we planned on and naming her what we have chosen together.” Karissa tells Roy.

“You asked me not to cry when I watched you laying in the hospice.” Karissa tells Roy “I watched you waste away from radiation poisoning and the prostate cancer it gave you.”

“When you died I had them cover you with a white sheet and I ran to the chapel and dropped on my knees and asked Odin and Frigga to take me too.” Karissa cries.

“Against my judgement, I started to court what the aristocrats calling “dating” Lord Andrew Charles Howard and we had a similar agenda he needs a heiress or heir to advance to the Dukedom of Norfolk and I wanted a daughter. We got together and I told him if he gave me a daughter I would marry him and he delivered his part of the bargain and I delivered mine and I married him and now My Elizabeth is heiress to the Dukedom of Norfolk and my dearest Samhan is Duchess of Clarence Territory in the name of their great-great-great-grandfather, Lord Patrick William Howard.” Karissa tells Roy.

“Oh Roy. The poor English gentleman and his wife had to flee Pre War World III Earth and one day later the world they knew was gone in the blink of an eye.” Karissa cries.

“They had lost everything as I had and I know what it is to lose everything that is precious.” Karissa cries.

“The gentleman is a direct descendant of Lord John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk from England and I have to admit I feel for him.” Karissa cries.

“Poor Lord Charles Andrew Howard had to wait 33 years for his first grandchild and it was my Elizabeth.” Karissa cries.

From the great beyond comes the voice of Roy “ Karissa. I love you and not even death can separate us. One day we'll be together in Valhalla.”

“Do you remember the song from The Broadway Musical that we loved so much together “The Secret Garden and our favourite song “How Could I Ever Know.” Roy's voice comes from Valhalla.

“You know I am not much of a singer, but remember the verses

How could I know I would have to leave you?

How could I know I would hurt you so?

You were the one I was born to love!

Oh, how could I ever know?

How could I ever know?

How can I say to go on without me?

How, when I know you still need me so?

How can I say not to dream about me?

How could I ever know?

How could I ever know?

Forgive me.

Can you forgive me

And hold me in your heart,

And find some new way to love me

Now that we're apart?

How could I know I would never hold you?

Never again in this world, but oh,

Sure as you breathe, I am there inside you,

How could I ever know?

How could I ever know?

Roy calls out the lyrics to Karissa .

Lady Karissa listens to Roy and she sings back to him “ How can I hope to go on without you?

How can I know where you'd have me go?

How can I bear not to dream about you?

Oh, how can I let you go?”

Roy calls back

“ How could I ever know?”

“Karissa , you must go on and live and be happy. Keep me in your heart and I will always be there.  You are married now to a Duke and you are a Duchess.” Roy tells her.

“Oh Roy, do you remember our favourite song “ Hello Young Lovers?” Karissa asks.

Roy is silent and Karissa doesn’t Roy answer her back and she starts to sing out loud

When I think of Roy

I think about a night

When the earth smelled of summer

And the sky was streaked with white

And the soft mist of Virginia

Was sleeping on a hill

I remember this

And I always will

There are new lovers now

On the same silent hill

Looking on the same blue sea

And I know Roy and I

Are a part of them all

And they're all a part of Roy and me

Hello Young lovers whoever you are

I hope your troubles are few

All my good wishes go with you tonight

I've been in love like you

Be brave, young lovers, and follow your star

Be brave and faithful and true

Cling very close to each other tonight

I've been in love like you

I know how it feels to have wings on your heels

And to fly down a street in a trance

You fly down a street on a chance that you'll meet

And you meet not really by chance

Don't cry young lovers whatever you do

Don't cry because I'm alone

All of my mem'ries happy tonight

I've had a love of my own

I've had a love of my own like yours

I've had a love of my own

“I love you Karissa . You are the only woman I will ever love. I had to wait for you to arrive and when you did  I knew you were the one I had been searching for all my life.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“We share two beautiful children and we have three more to go.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“Oh! Andrew Charles. Haven’t you ever loved before me?” Karissa asks.

“No. I haven’t. I courted a number of women here, but I didn’t get serious. They were one night stands.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“I think you named it slam, blam, and thank you Ma’am.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“With you it is different.” Lord Andrew Charles confesses.

“I know that my cousin, Lord Richard William Carey loves you.  I can’t stop him from loving you and I can’t stop you loving him.” Lord Andrew Charles  explains.

“We have made my poor dad so happy with Lady Elizabeth and Samhain. “ Lord Andrew Charles tells Karissa.

“My two other brothers failed him and we made him happy. I don’t want to die now and I want him to live to see his first great-grandchild.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

Lady Karissa looks at Lord Andrew Charles and she tells him “ I never said I didn’t love you, Andrew Charles. You gave me my heart’s desire and I will always protect the father of my children.”

“When  I heard the story about your great-great-grandfather, Lord Patrick William Howard and everything he had to endure. My heart broke and I started to cry.” Karissa confesses.

“How did he ever endure all the loss he went through?” Lady Karissa asks.

“I don’t know Karissa .It was before my time. I guess he was a strong man.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“Oh! Flint The Immortal did the world a favour when he unleashed the Ebola Virus on Colonel Green in the mountains of Montana in 2156.” Karissa tells Lord Andrew Charles.

“I wish I could have been there from a distance to see that miserable bastard die and take his last breath. “ Lady Karissa tells Lord Andrew Charles.

First, Genghis Khan, Napoleon Bonaparte, Adolph Hitler and then Colonel Phillip Green.” Lady Karissa tells Lord Andrew Charles.

“All of these men are going to suffer for what they did to humanity in the end.” Lady Karissa states.

“It was reported that Khan fell from his horse and he died, Bonaparte was slowly poisoned, Hitler committed suicide and Green suffered under the hands of Flint The Immortal.” Lady Karissa states.

“If I had been there I would have made them suffer even far worse. It would have started with drawing and quartering, disembowelling them, slowly boil them in oil and finally beheading them and places their heads on a stake and letting everyone seeing them.” Karissa tells Lord Andrew Charles.

“I am the first and most likely the last woman you will ever love, Andrew Charles. I promise when the time comes we will be laid to rest together and we will see each other in Valhalla.” Karissa tells him.

“You never told me about Mr Roy Mock, Karissa why?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“What good would it do if I had. He died from the side effects of radiation poisoning before we met.” Karissa tells him.

“You were born on Star Base 12 and he was born on Planet Earth.” Lady Karissa answers.

“He was the first man I loved and he won’t be the last man I love.” Lady Karissa states, “He is a blessed memory of my past.”

“You are my future.” Lady Karissa answers “From time to time I reminisce about what we had together.”

“All I have is my memories and one single picture that was taken of us together.” Karissa tells him.

“Is there something that Lady Elizabeth or Samhain need from me?” Lady Karissa asks.

“No. Lady ELizabeth and Samhain are sound asleep but I thought you might need something.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“I'm fine thank you, but my heart hurts tonight and I came out here to see the evening stars and the moon that was shining so bright over Beltane Manor. Lady Karissa answers.

Lord Andrew Charles looks at Lady Karissa and he says “ I thought if you agreed to it we would spend the night together.”

“As you wish, Andrew Charles. I told myself I would never deny you if you asked me.” Karissa tells him.

“We don’t have to make love. I just want to be with you and feel you next to me. “ Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“You are very welcome to stay with me any night, Andrew Charles. I have left the decision to you from the beginning.” Lady Karissa tells him.

“You chose to sleep by yourself.” Karissa tells him.

Lord Andrew Charles and Lady Karissa spend the night in her suite, but nothing happens between them but at least they talking to each other and cohabiting with each other as husband and wife and to Lady Karissa that is a start.
