The Same Old Obsession Based on A Song By Gordon Lightfoot

Lord Andrew Charles Howard is the youngest Duke of Norfolk Territory on Star Base 12 and at the age of 24 years old he thinks he has everything.

He has a beautiful wife, Lady Karissa Elizabeth Ann and a beautiful daughter, Lady Elizabeth Victoria An Beltane.

Lord Andrew Charles is ambitious and despite the warning of his wife, Lady Karissa. He does exactly what he wants.

Lord Andrew Charles did the impossible by giving his grandfather, Lord Charles Andrew Howard Senior, his first great-grandchild whereas his two older brothers failed in doing so and with that he became the fifth Duke of Norfolk Territory on Star Base 12.

Lord Andrew Charles is missing the one thing in his life, it is Lady Karissa despite the fact that they are married and have a daughter, Lady Elizabeth.

Lord Andrew Charles decided to travel from Beltane Manor to his family home of Norfolk Estate where his father and step-mother reside to ask his father what to do.

Lord Andrew Charles climbs into the Howard carriage and he heads for Norfolk Estate to talk to his father.

Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR is remarried to the woman he loves and it is Lady Sarah Rachael Churchill.

Lord Andrew Charles heads for Norfolk Estate and as the carriage passes through the streets of Norfolk Territory.

The town people start to line the streets of Norfolk Territory to catch a glimpse of their new Duke.

Lord Andrew Charles is distracted and he doesn’t notice the town people line the streets but he looks and he waves to them as his carriage passes by on the way to Norfolk Estate.

Finally, the carriage passes and Lord Andrew Charles notices his father and Lady Sarah standing outside of Norfolk Estate.

Once the carriage stops, Lord Andrew Charles steps out of the carriage and he walks over to his father and step-mother and he bows to them and Lord Charles Andrew JR looks at his youngest child and son and asks” What is the matter Lord Andrew Charles?”

“I need your advice father.” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“What is the matter my son?” Lord Charles Andrew JR asks.

“Dad, Where am I going wrong with Lady Karissa.? Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“What do you mean my son?” Lord Charles Andrew JR asks.

“Lady Karissa and I are drifting apart.” Lord Andrew Charles tells his father.

Lord Charles Andrew Jr looks at his youngest son and child and says, “ Listen my boy and you are my boy and son. Lady Karissa made it clear to you that she wanted nothing to do with the running of Norfolk Estate and she told you it was an obstacle around your neck.” 

“You thought it would be a piece of cake to run.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states, “When I became Duke I was 30 years old and I thought the same thing but was I wrong. I was the oldest son of your damn grandfather and what could I do?” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“My damn father had already disinherited my younger brother, Lord Richard Edward Senior from the Dukedom and my younger brother became disqualified by having a daughter rather than a son.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“My oldest Uncle, Lord Frederick WIlliam was disinherited as well by your great-grandfather, Lord Frederick WIlliam and the next one in line was Lord Richard William Carey, but he is already Duke of Bedford Territory and that left me with only Lord Thomas William Howard but he was already Duke of Northumberland Territory, so I had to continue with the hope that one of my sons would come through with my damn father’s first great-grandchild.” Lord Charles Andrew JR explains.

I looked to your damn eldest brother to give me the first grandchild, and years went by until Lord Charles Andrew III failed to produce a child.” Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR tells his youngest son.

“I looked to Lord Patrick William and Lady Pauline to do what Lord Charles Andrew III and Lady Victoria didn’t do but they failed me too.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states “I had to look towards you to save what your great-great-great grandfather started in 2165.” Lord Charles Andrew JR stated.

“I could just let what Lord Patrick William die and end after all of his hard work.” Lord Charles Andrew JR asks.

“No, of course not dad.” Lord Andrew Charles tells his father.

“Lord Patrick William gave up everything he loves on Planet Earth and he lost everything and he had to start from scratch.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“I was told no one ever had an unkind thing to say about your great-great-grandfather.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“I can’t say the same thing about your great-grandfather and grandfather, as neither as well loved as Lord Patrick William Howard.” Lord Charles Andrew JR explains.

“You know the day that your older brother was born in2240, and when I named your older brother after my grandfather, my own father had a tizzy and he made a fuss and I told him “ Hey old man. Lord Patrick William II is my damn son and I will name him what I want and I named him for your great-great-grandfather of a blessed memory.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“I had already named your oldest brother after my father and myself and he became Lord Charles Andrew Howard III.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“The only noble thing that your damn grandfather did was stick up for the right of your grandaunt to marry Lord William Carey and he would have killed his own father to ensure that his only sister be allowed to marry for love.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells Lord Andrew Charles.

“I know you don’t think of much of Lord Richard William Carey, but let me tell you something about his grandfather, Lord George Carey was the finest man I had ever known and he was my first cousin and I loved him and I loved his son, Lord Robert and daughter, Lady Roberta and I love his children, Lord Richard William Carey and Lady Richenda.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“Lady Karissa is very wise and she is smart and you made a wise decision to marry her, but she doesn’t want to govern as she has her own territory to govern and she is also a mother to Lady Elizaebeth.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“I love Karissa , dad, but I am afraid I am losing her to Lord Richard William Carey.” Lord Andrew Charles tells his dad.

“I don’t want to lose her to my first cousin thrice removed.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“You better think first and put your priorities right my son.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells Lord Andrew Charles.

“Karissa doesn’t like Norfolk Estate; She told me it has too many ancestry ghosts in it that are holding us back and that is why I brought her Beltane Manor.” Lord ANdrew Charles tells his dad.

“Norfolk Estate is the ancestral home of your great-great-grandfather and he built it with his own hands after he helped everyone build their homes.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“My grandfather, father, and all of our family was born here.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“Beltane Manor is Lady Karissa ‘s estate and she is happy there and that is where the rest of your children will be born.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“What do I do to save my marriage?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“Lord Andrew Charles. Don’t place Norfolk Territory in front of your family like I did. “ Lord Charles Andrew JR explains.

“I beg of you, I love my granddaughter, Lady Elizabeth and she is the best part of Lady Karissa and you.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“I love Lady Elizabeth.” Lord Andrew Charles tells his dad “She came with a hefty price and if she hadn’t been a girl Karissa would have never married me.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“Karissa made it clear that she wanted a daughter and it was the only way that she would marry me.” Lord Andrew Charles tells his dad.

“I am sure your next child will be the  son you want, but if it is not, keep trying and you will get a son.” Lord Charles Andrew JR explains.

“Karissa tells me I am terrible in bed.” Lord Andrew Charles tells his dad.

“You better brush up on your love-making and keep her satisfied.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells him.

Lady Karissa has a sharp tongue dad.” Lord Andrew Charles states, “She calls me kinds of names.” 

Lord Charles Andrew JR starts laughing “ She has grit, guts, and she is not afraid of you, Lord Andrew Charles.” 

“Lady Karissa is not an aristocrat but we turned her into one and into a  fighter and she will be the mother of my grandchildren.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his youngest son.

“Lord Andrew Charles. Take a mistress and keep it discreet until it is time for your second child to be conceived.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“Look at your brothers in their marriages. Lord Charles Andrew III is not happy but Lord Patrick William II tells me he is.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“Lord Patrick William II and Lady Pauline would be happy with a child in their lives.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“Lady Karissa and you never had a honeymoon and maybe you need to be more romantic, passionate, and think with your heart and not with your testicles.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“Don’t worry about Norfolk Territory, it will govern itself and concentrate on your marriage and family.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells Lord Andrew Charles.

“Dad, mom’s garden open?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“Your mom’s garden was never closed.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“I sure miss mom, dad.” Lord Andrew Charles tells his dad ``Didn't you love her at all?”

“I appreciated your mother, Lord Andrew Charles and we tolerated each other.” Lord Charles Andrew JR explains.

“It was your mom’s idea to divorce, Lord Andrew Charles. She wanted to return to Lennox Territory.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“I loved her as she was the mother of my children.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“Our marriage was one of alliances, financial and political gain.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“My dad was hoping by marrying the daughter of The Duke of Lennox Territory that your oldest brother might inherit Lennox Territory.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

Your maternal grandfather later on had a son that would replace your mother from inheriting the title.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“My father wasn’t a finicky man when it came down to his great-grandchildren as long as it came through one of his grandsons.” Lord Charles Andrew JR states.

“Lady Elizabeth will inherit the title of Duchess of Norfolk Territory and I hope I am still alive to see that day.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“She will make her great-great-great-grandfather proud of her when her time comes.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“Stop worrying about this damn territory and ask your lazy brothers to help you govern it so you can concentrate on your marriage and family.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells his son.

“I think I will go out into mom’s garden as it holds pleasant memories for me.” Lord Andrew Charles tells his dad and he bows and he starts to walk towards his mom’s garden out at Norfolk Estate.

Lord Andrew Charles walks into the garden and he starts to think about the Hidden Garden out at Madame Valois Boarding House where he first visited Karissa.

Lord Andrew Charles remembers that Karissa was sitting in the garden reading when he walked in and she didn’t even look up until he addressed her three times.

He thinks about the Sunday picnic they had together and when he stole a kiss from her and she slapped him and told him not to do it again.

He had never met such a young woman with such courage and guts like Karissa.

They hadn’t even been married for a year and he couldn’t think about losing her to his first cousin, Lord Richard William Carey.
